Description:
Engineering design has been considered an art rather than a science. Over the last decade, however, research and industrial communities have actively pursued a science-based approach to design. While many years may be required to build a comprehensive and complete design model, existing knowledge can be organized from a number of perspectives. This book presents a process view, rather than a design problem approach, based on the author's multi-year collaboration with various industries. The book content reflects the needs of mechanical, electronics, and software companies, as well as numerous service organizations, including healthcare. Models and algorithms will be included that have been widely used in practical applications. Some in the research and practice communities can be expected to apply the concepts in practice while others may be encouraged to fill the gaps discovered with new results.
