Description:
Presents a unique, first-hand introduction to American criminal justice, from suspicion through verdict and sentencing from a prosecutor's perspective. The book is a guide to a computer simulation that allows the reader to assume the role of an assistant district attorney. In the simulation, the player investigates and prosecutes a suspect charged with possession of marijuana by interviewing witnesses, negotiating a plea bargain with the defendant's lawyer, and taking the case to trial if the plea bargain fails.
Expand description
The simulation closely follows the actual preparation and trial of a drug possession case in three stages: investigation, pretrial, and trial. Success at trial depends on how well the investigation and pretrial stages of the case are handled. As in real life, there are many traps for the unwary, mistakes that can hurt the case. The program includes an intuitive first person interface, branching dialogues, scoring and timer, and a printed report.
