For More Than Five Decades, Lundy's Restaurant of Sheepshead Bay was an institution of Brooklyn life. In its heyday it seated 2,800 and served a distinctive American cuisine, with generous portions of fresh seafood, fluffy biscuits, and well-filled fruit pies. The restaurant reminded Brooklyn's residents of the plenty that was possible in America, allowing industrial tycoons and working-class families to dine together, with everyone feeling they were getting their money's worth. Reopened in 1995 after a 16-year hiatus, Lundy's now continues its singular tradition of making dining an event, an experience to be treasured.
Through evocative essays highlighted by distinctive historical photographs, Lundy's celebrates the vibrantly revitalized eatery while vividly bringing to life the old one. It looks back on the family that created and managed the restaurant, the neighborhood and borough it is part of, and, most of all, the patrons who thought it one of the best reasons to live in Brooklyn. In addition, it allows cooks to recreate the various specialties of Lundy's through carefully researched recipes, including seafood chowders and bisques, creamed spinach and buttermilk onion rings, those fabulous Lundy's desserts, and much more.
